Each spring for the past 8 years the Cicero Seventh-day
Adventist Church has traveled to a third-world country and built a
church. Each block structure is erected by local members who volunteer
ten days of their time and pay their own airfare to be a part of this
exciting projecting. One fourth of the members of our church have experienced
this joy.
On former trips, churches were built in Mexico,
El Salvador, Belize, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. The
project for March 2004 is in the Dominican Republic, about an hour from
Haiti. A medical team cares for the physical needs of the local inhabitants. Other
members of the group cook and often hold a Vacation Bible School for the children.
Last year the short-term missionaries also constructed
a house for a single mother and her 4 children. In both Mexico and El Salvador
simple homes were also constructed for individuals in need.
